Aishwarya Rai (now known as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) is an Indian film actress and former Miss World. Born on November 1st in year 1973, Aishwarya worked as a model before beginning her career in films and eventually won the Miss World beauty pageant in year 1994. Aishwarya has modeled for leading brands such as Longines Watches, Coca Cola, Lakme Cosmetics, Philips, Palmolive, Lux and Fuji Films; Aishwarya Rai was also named the official brand ambassador of De Beers Diamonds in India.
Aishwarya has worked in almost 40 films in Hindi, English, Tamil, Telegu and Bengali and is often referred as the “Most Beautiful Woman in the World”.
Aishwarya Rai was born in Mangalore city. Aishwarya’s family later moved to Mumbai where Aishwarya did her schooling, and later enrolled at the Raheja College with plans of becoming an architect. Aishwarya later gave up her education to pursue a career in modeling and in year 1994 after winning the Miss World beauty pageant spent 1 year reigning as Miss World in London. Aishwarya continued modeling until she became an actress.
Aishwarya began her film career with Mani Ratnam’s Iruvar in year 1997; her 1st commercial success was with the Tamil film, Jeans, in year 1998. Aishwarya attracted the attention of Bollywood after her strong performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999, for which Aishwarya was awarded the Filmfare Best Actress Award. Later in year 2002, she appeared in Bhansali’s Devdas, for which Aishwarya won her second Filmfare Best Actress award
During the year 2003 to 2005 Aishwarya faced a setback in her career after most of her films do well at the box-office, after that Aishwarya appeared in films like Dhoom-2 in year 2006, (which turned out to be her biggest commercial success that year),Guru in 2007 and Jodhaa Akbar in year 2008, all of which were commercially and critically acclaimed. Aishwarya has established herself as one of the leading actresses in Bollywood.
Off screen, Aishwarya supports and is a brand ambassador for many charity organizations and in year 2009 was awarded the Padma Shri, the 4th highest civilian honour given by the Government of India (GOI).
